Product images

Updated

Good photos help customers decide and build trust in your store. You can add several images per product and choose which one leads.

Steps

  1. Open the product and stay on the General tab, under Product Images.
  2. Click the upload area to browse for files, or drag and drop images onto it. You can add up to 5 per product.
  3. The first image becomes the main cover image shown in listings and at the top of the product page.
  4. Reorder images by dragging them — put your best, clearest shot first.
  5. Remove any image you don’t want, then save the product.

After you upload

Every image you upload is optimised in the background, in several sizes, so your store loads quickly for shoppers — especially on mobile data.

  • Optimising begins shortly after the upload finishes and is usually done within a minute or two.
  • Your image is visible the whole time. Until optimising finishes it is served at its original size, so on a slow connection it may take a moment to appear.
  • There is nothing for you to do. Save the product as usual; if you want to confirm, refresh the page a couple of minutes later.

Because of this, you no longer need to resize or compress photos before uploading. Upload the best copy you have (up to 5MB) and your storefront serves the right size for each shopper’s screen automatically.

Tips

  • Use clear, well-lit photos against a clean background.
  • Upload the original photo rather than a screenshot or a shrunken copy — a sharper source gives a sharper result.
  • Keep framing consistent across products so your store looks tidy.
  • Show the product from a few angles, plus any important details.
  • Square images display most consistently across the storefront.
